Pumpkin spice mocha is the perfect f drink to get your chocolate and coffee fix in the fall. A sip of this is like a hug from the inside, warming you instantly. This is a make ahead mix recipe that can be added to hot milk for that instant pick me up.
Pumpkin spice latte returned to Starbucks (YAY) a few weeks back. On Aug 28 (2018) to be exact. I have friends who made it a point to wait in line to get that first shot of fall flavors. YES it is a popular thing and NO I did not get to taste it that day – or for quite a few more days after that.
It is not that I am averse to these flavors. I love them – cinnamon , ginger nutmeg and cloves what is there not to love! I love to have someone make my morning drink. Most of the mornings I wake up to a mean cup of hot chai that DH brews.
Now I am digressing, this post is about coffee, chocolate in a drinkable form.
This is my version to get the fall flavor fix instantly. Mix all the ingredients and store in a jar . If you are making a larger batch make sure that it is refrigerated.
So what goes into it ?
- Instant Coffee Powder
- Unsweetened Cocoa
- Brown Sugar
- Pumpkin Spice
Add 1 tablespoon per cup of hot milk and shake it up !
Isn’t that a simple recipe ?
You could add instant milk powder to the mix as well. But I prefer to make mine with hot milk.
I use instant espresso powder and if you are a baker who loves coffee this is a great addition to the pantry. It does not make the greatest of coffees, but is absolutely delicious in cakes, pies and flavored drinks.
If you do not have it substitute your favorite instant coffee powder or omit altogether and add freshly brewed espresso to the milk.
Use store bought pumpkin pie spice or add the spices as in the recipe.

A delicious way to get you chocolate and fall flavor fix in the morning or anytime. Mix enough for a week and store in an airtight container.
- Milk Notes
- 1 C Cocoa Powder Unsweetened
- ¾ C Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Instant Espresso
- 2 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Ginger
- 1/2 Tsp Nutmeg
- 1/2 Tsp Cloves
- 1/2 Tsp All Spice optional
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate Bars
- Cinnamon/ Pumpkin Pie Spice
Mix all the ingredients listed under instant mocha mix and store in an airtight jar. Refrigerate for longer storage.
Heat milk or the non dairy milk to almost boiling .
- In a bowl add 1 Tbsp of the instant mocha mix per cup of milk . Stir in the hot milk.
Top with whipped cream. Sprinkle pumpkin spice on top and enjoy
- Use any milk (dairy or no dairy).
- Use full fat version for a creamier drink.
- Substitute your favorite instant coffee powder for espresso.
